Discover the city: how to

Description

Material:

Worksheet (to be prepared by the students).

Duration:

Preparation: approx. 3h, implementation: approx. 2h (can be varied as required)

Content:

The organisers or some pupils prepare a trail. This way they discover the city or the place in small groups and communicate at the same time. This course can be done by foot, by bike or scooter. The stations are located at the various sights of the respective place. At each of the stations, a sheet is attached with a question that relates to the immediate surroundings and is written in the language of the local class. This way, both partners are involved: The invited class has to understand the content of the question and the host class, thanks to its local knowledge, has to give the answer. To ensure that the two groups really exchange ideas, the questions contain sufficiently complicated terms.
While the pupils complete the course, they collect objects and information. This way they can prove that they have been to the different stations. To answer the questions, they sometimes have to make contact with the locals, for example by asking for my receipt in a shop while buying a croissant or asking for information at the station.

Variations
- Search for unusual objects: Using a list, the groups searchs for unusual objects. The list is unique for each group.
- Photo rally: In groups of two, different objects in the city are photographed.
- Photo report: Older pupils receive 30 francs per group of two to pay for some activities in the city which they record as a photo reportage.
